It's almost the end of the year. Two years of the pandemic and it seems like, at least for me, life has mostly been back to normal since spring. I don't know. I feel like financially, Onion and I reached some targets, and managed to get some important things, like the car and a new rental place, while keeping track of our budgets but not being paupers.
Anyway, since earlier this year, the former minister of RHUC, James Ravenscroft, left for Newfoundland and we had (one of) the now-retired ministers before him, Linda Butler taking over for services for a few weeks, and then Ruth Noble as supply minister. In the meantime, I was asked to join the Search Committee to find a new minister since April. It was a mix of old and new members, some older, some younger, to encompass a large range of members and ideas. Since I was a racial minority and I had been in church for 3 years, plus helping out with livestreaming services during the pandemic, I was picked, lol. We spent months brainstorming and preparing our documents, writing material, our profile, and our requirements. We vetted countless candidates, discussing factors, interviewing and debating with one another on certain issues, although it was always civil. However, it's all confidential, so I can't say too much. But I did ask all questions on one of the interviews, because they believed in me. Lmao. How that happened, I don't know.
The waifu and I renewed our York Region library cards, and because we officially changed our address, we got Toronto Public Library cards too, since it's so near. We went to North York Central Library and got our TPL library cards. The last time I had a TPL card, it was the old, white one, and my signature was a kindergarten scrawl. When the staff asked if I had a registered before, I said, "Uh, yeah. about 25 years ago?" That made the other staff not attending to me look over and say, "What? 25 years?" Yeah. Apparently they were taken aback, lol. I told them I had been gone from Canada for 17 years. They said they probably didn't have me in the system but remarked that others still had them, if they kept renewing them since the 90s, when I mentioned I had the old white ones. Anyway, Onion and I looked through the whole library, checking out the vast collection and material they offered, as well as some cool stuff like 3D printing services, and sewing-related stuff. So big and so valuable to the community and society as a whole. Seriously. I remember a terrible article from Forbes from an economist who said libraries were a waste of taxpayer money, and that they should be replaced with Amazon bookstores. Yeah, I remember the outrage on that one. We borrowed a few books and movies from the library. The whole system separate library cards because of municipalities is stupid as hell though.
We also brought Toshi in for her annual vet check. They said her fur was super soft and she was very healthy! Great heart rate and 3.5kg, a very healthy weight for her. No wonder her 8lb ass on me in the mornings (especially) on the bladder make me go "oof".
Oh, the waifu also passed her G2 driving test! Woots! Congrats babe, so proud of ya! Unfortunately, Onion made one major mistake during her first G2 exam, and so failed. She rescheduled and practiced with our Camry, with my cousin Chloe and I joining in to provide reminders and tips for her driving, since she was a bit rusty. It wasn't worth it to rebook the driving school instructor's car. We spent several nights a week practicing driving on the road, practicing reverse parking and getting a fixed formula to parallel park with the car, since the Camry is so bloody wide. It messed up our initial bearings because our both our instructors used a Corolla, and the formulas with the Camry didn't work out as well. But eventually it all went right and we practiced the routes for a bit. I took a day off to accompany and drive the waifu to the Downsview test centre. It was waaaaay less crowded than on my exam date and it was smooth and mostly efficient. We waited about an extra half an hour for the examiner to drop in and I waited at the carpark for my babe to finish. When she came back I quickly rushed to the car to see how she was. She jumped out of the car, said she passed and we hugged really tightly! Whew! It was a relief. I knew she could drive, but as anyone does, sometimes you make mistakes on the road, which if you're unlucky to do on the road with an examiner, then you fail because you don't meet the standards just for that one time. But anyhoo, now my babe can drive!
Speaking of driving, I drove Jimmy to the airport, because he wants to move to Utah. I had some reservations about his (lack of) plans, going to the home of the LDS without much thought because he felt that the Spirit of the Lord called him there. Still, none of my business, so I drove him to Pearson anyway, because I'm a nice friend, lol. Had a nice, chill chat in the car about Utah and his immediate plans before dropping him off and heading to work.
