Back in November I was handling Pub Theology and no one else showed up apart from Paula, lol. So instead of having a typical topic and discussion, we ended up talking about her beliefs in the New Age, tarot, psychics and stuff. Now, I don't believe in them one bit, but I always find it fun to read and I'm always curious to find out my "readings" for harmless fun and inquiry.
She did a tarot reading for me in fact! I haven't done one in forever, since I don't go actively engaging in them. I ended up getting the 6 of cups, King of cups and Temperance. She proceeded to interpret (a bit rustily) about what it meant to me. I offered that 6 was my lucky/favourite number, and I often reminisce. I am also pretty a calm, balanced person in general, so I felt that the tarot cards didn't necessarily describe my state now, but rather a general description of me. Now like I said I don't believe in it but I think they're fun to do. And I know how vague interpretations can work out to any individual just like horoscopes. Plus I added on to how to applied to me along with her interpretation.
Anyway, last month I met up with Jimmy for Jollibee and Magic: The Gathering. He had just come back from a "God-directed" trip to Utah (that I felt was not sensible, but I digress). We caught up on his time there, and I told him about my time in different churches, plus the infamous CHC Singapore scandal. He'd sold all his Yugioh and MTG cards apart from one last milling deck he kept. I brought 2 challenger decks, plus my old monoblack deck from almost 20 years ago. I was curious to see how it'd perform against his much more modern deck. Interestingly, I won all 3 matches! One of the challenger decks (Dimir Rogues) won easily, while the other 2 basically scraped by, barely winning; I'd have lost if I didn't win on those last turns. Great games though, all in all. Felt good, since Onion whooped me using my monoblack deck against me using one of the challenger decks by killing me with Phage the Untouchable. Pfft. Ouch!
Anyway, February was also Chinese New Year and Valentine's. Chinese New Year finally had some semblance of normalcy this year, with an actual gathering. Last year my aunt dropped food for us that she and my grandma cooked. This year we actually had two gatherings! The first one was a smaller one that included my grandma, aunt, my cousin Chloe, Onion and I. Had a very nice smaller-scale meal that was still delicious, nonetheless. Chit-chatted and gambled a bit with grandma and Chloe before heading off. The next week, my uncle Thomas and his family (the wife and his 2 kids, my cousins Colin and Lilian) dropped by with a shitload of dimsum along with the same people who showed up the week prior. We again chatted and gambled, with me taking some big winnings in poker. All in all, nice to have some CNY stuff considering everything that's happened, and in a place that doesn't celebrate it like Malaysia and Singapore do.
On Valentine's itself, the waifu and I had discussed for some time that we wanted to visit the Octagon Steakhouse again. The first (and only) time we went was for our anniversary back in 2018 when we just moved back to Toronto. We had to cycle to the bus stop from my grandma's place and take the Viva Blue bus to the Octagon. And we were really amazed at how high class the whole place was. We felt sorely underdressed, that even the waiters looked better suited to eat there than us. We were really impressed and the food was fantastic. Expensive as hell too, but worth it. Then came COVID. This time around we got to drive there instead, which was such a nice change. Again, service and food was top notch and we tipped very well. Still fancy as hell and a great place. We'd like to go again but there are SO many other restaurants in Toronto we haven't tried. There's a tough balance between wanting to go to new places and places we've gone to before, where we know the food is great.
Ended the month going to Forest Church with Onion, exploring Mill Pond Park with the other attendees of Forest Church. Walked on the frozen lake courting death and just basically explored. Nice! It was snowing heavily too, so that added to the atmosphere.
It's finally warming up. Driving in the snow has been... quite the experience.
